Technical Sales – Self-cleaning water intake screens

GoFlo Screens are a specialist manufacturer of high-specification self-cleaning water intake screening systems, sold mainly to the water utility sector and hydropower sites. Originally developed for hydro plants that had to meet stringent fish and eel screening regulations, then moved into the water utility sector that had to meet the same regulations. These are very high quality and expensive systems, with typical hardware costing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
We are a small company (approx £1 million turnover) but has seen rapid growth over the last couple of years and now requires a dedicated Technical Sales Person as they build on that growth. The product is high quality and expensive, and requires a lot of pre-sales discussion, followed by a paid-for ‘site integration design’ service before the final screen order is placed. Typical project timescales are 18 months from initial contact to finished system installed. They design and manufacture the systems in-house.
We are looking for a Part-Time sales person, probably for two or three days a week, but this may grow over time. You will have a strong track record on technical sales with demonstrable previous success, ideally in the water utility sector, but other equivalent sectors would be OK.
You won’t be a pushy, gregarious salesperson – they want an intelligent, considerate person who really understands the product and the client’s needs and wants the overall project to a success. You may have an engineering background, or at least a good understanding of engineering learnt through experience. The company can provide engineering back-up when needed, but doesn’t want to be answering routine questions and writing proposals – that will come under the new sales role.
You would be tenacious to get to talk to the right people, organised enough to track contacts and opportunities (Salesforce CRM), and innovative to help shape the long-term sales strategy, including helping improve their marketing and website, and spotting new opportunities.
This role is mainly office based, then when needed visits to client’s offices and sites would be made – but this isn’t a role where you are driving round the country knocking on doors – travel will be only when really needed.
As the role is Part-Time, what hours are worked would be down to you, so it would fit well with anyone with childcare or other responsibilities. The salary range offered is pro-rata for the hours worked.
The GoFlo office is located in a beautiful watermill in the Stroud valley, with Gloucester, Cheltenham and Bristol nearby. It is ideal for someone who likes to work in a pleasant environment. The area is the Cotswold Hills, so great if you like the outdoors. The office and staff are a friendly collaborative group so they are looking for someone who fits in well with that ethos.
